Artsy Fartsy

I usually get really annoyed at overly-symbolic art, where everything represents something else, but this idea came to me and nagged at me until it was drawn.

The chicken is me - just a common bird of no special quality who wants to be seen as something exotic and unique. My talents and skills are not rare or hard to come by, nor am I exceptional at them. No history books will be written about me. Heck, no bumperstickers will be written about me! I'm just very average despite my desire to be more.

The 2 sides of the field are what I have and what I find my daydreams longing for.
What I have is the beautiful cherry tree with deep roots and full branches. My awesome husband, steady job, loving family, supportive friends. They nourish me, shelter me and fill my life with a graceful beauty. The butterflies are friends and family that have passed from this life, just out of reach, but never out of my mind. The rocks are my stability - the things that anchor me and secure me, though sometimes I see them as weighing me down and getting in my way. Things like responsibility and pride.

What I long for is excitement, crazy parties, connecting with strangers - it seems so wonderful, colorful and fanciful, but can be very dangerous and impractical. The woods to the top of the hill show that if I were to go too far, I could lose myself very easily and lose sight of that beautiful cherry tree.

The stream is a border - usually my conscience or common sense, sometimes cowardice and poor excuses. It keeps me from the other side of this field.
